Protein Supplements for Enhancing Sports Performance Essay
Protein Supplements for Enhancing Sports Performance - Essay Example As the discussion stresses BCAAà is believedà to delayà fatigue inà the centralà nervous systemà as ità enhances performanceà in prolongedà aerobic enduranceà activities byà increasing theà ratio ofà BCAA: free tryptophanà thus mitigatingà the formationà of serotonin. Studies haveà led toà the conclusionà thatà BCAAà supplementation reducesà mental fatigueà during prolongedà exercises. It also improves physical performance and cognitive performance after exercise. These findingsà have howeverà not been deemedà sufficient enoughà to qualifyà BCAAà as anà effective ergogenic. Experts haveà therefore recommendedà more investigationsà to be carriedà out onà BCAA.This paper highlights thatà glutamine is an important fuel for some cells of the immune system. For example, lymphocytes and macrophage. Prolonged intense exercise can reduce these cells in the body. Muscle glycogen synth esis can be promoted by glutamine. Although glutamineà can stimulateà muscle glycogenà synthesis, ingestion ofà adequate carbohydrateà alone hasà no advantage.à Aspartic acidà is anà amino acidà made upà of potassiumà and magnesiumà aspartates asà its salts. The aspartatesà have beenà used asà ergogenics byà enhancing fattyà acid metabolismà and sparingà utilization ofà muscle glycogen.

Kinematics analysis of data Essay Example for Free
Kinematics analysis of data Essay From the data we gathered on this experiment, the effects of the height of the track can greatly affect the acceleration of the cart. Base on the data on the table, the higher the height of the track will have higher acceleration and will lead to higher sinà ¸. From this, it implies that the higher the displacement of the track will lead to the higher acceleration of the cart. The reason why the cart will have higher acceleration to higher displacement is because of the continues gravitational pull to the cart without restriction to its track. Time and the inclination of the track are interrelated to each other. As for the higher the inclination of the track will lead to shorter time to takes the cart to goes down to the track. The time will become shorter because as for the higher the inclination of the track will also have higher acceleration which means the cart will become faster and thatââ¬â¢s why it will takes shorter time to goes down to the track. The difference between the picket fenceââ¬â¢s acceleration and the value of g is the value of the slope of a graph of average velocity versus time will be the acceleration due to gravity of the falling object. And also the value of g is the computed value for the free fall acceleration, while the picket fenceââ¬â¢s acceleration is the value that gathered by manual experimentation for the free fall acceleration, that is also why the data on the g of table 2 and the data on table 3 have the similarities on the digits or values.

liberation of ireland Essay -- essays research papers
Liberation of Ireland The 1916 Easter Rising The Easter Rebellion, was an armed uprising of Irish nationalists against the rule of Great Britain in Ireland. The uprising occurred on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, and centred mainly in Dublin. The chief objectives were the attainment of political freedom and the establishment of an Irish republic. Centuries of discontent, marked by numerous rebellions, preceded the uprising. The new crisis began to develop in September 1914, following the outbreak of World War I, when the British government suspended the recently enacted Home Rule Bill, which guaranteed a measure of political autonomy to Ireland. Suspension of the bill stimulated the growth of the Citizen Army, an illegal force of Dublin citizens organised by the labour leader Jim Larkin (died 1948) and the socialist James Connolly (1870-1916); of the Irish Volunteers, a national defence body; and of the extremist Sinn FÃ ©in. The uprising was planned by leaders of these organisations, among whom were the British consular agent Sir Roger David Casement, the educator Padhraic Pearse (1879-1916), and the poet Thomas MacDonagh (1878-1916). Hostilities began about noon on April 24, when about 2000 men led by Pearse seized control of the Dublin post office and other strategic points within the city. Shortly after these initial successes, the leaders of the rebellion proclaimed the Independence of Ireland and announced the establishment of a provisional government of the Irish Republic. Additional positions were occupied by the rebels during the night, and by the morning of April 25 they controlled a considerable part of Dublin. The counteroffensive by British forces began on Tuesday with the arrival of reinforcements. Martial law was proclaimed throughout Ireland. Bitter street fighting developed in Dublin, during which the strengthened British forces steadily dislodged the Irish from their positions. By the morning of April 29, the post office building, site of the rebel headquarters, was under violent attack. Recognising the futility of further resistance, Pearse surrendered unconditionally in the afternoon of April 29 . The British immediately brought the leaders of the uprising to trial before a field court-martial. Fifteen of the group, including Pearse, Connolly, and MacDonagh, were sentenced to death and executed by firing squad. Four others, including ... ...m. In June, Irish voters ratified a treaty strengthening political and monetary integration within the European Community. A Diverse Workforce Essay
1.1: 3 organisation benefits of attracting and retaining a diverse workforce In this era of economic globalization, many companies are making efforts to achieve workforce diversity, which aims to employ workers from different backgrounds to provide tangible and intangible benefits to the organization. Understanding the advantages of workforce diversity helps an organization to establish with a competitive edge. This can include employing workers with cultural and language skills that can lead to greater reach for the business. 3 organisation benefits of attracting and retaining a diverse workforce 1: Increase in Productivity Workforce diversity can bring about an increase in productivity and competitive advantages. Employers can offer more solutions to customers because of new ideas and processes brought into the organization. Workplace diversity increases employee morale and causes employees to desire to work more effectively and efficiently. 2: Increase in Creativity Workforce diversity increases creativity within a company because people coming from many cultures can give many ideas and their own experience. Employees from different backgrounds bring in a variety of solutions on how to achieve a common goal. In atmospheres when brainstorming is necessary, more ideas are formed because team members are culturally diverse. For example, employees from China working in American companies may approach a problem totally differently than do American workers. 3: Positive Reputation Job seekers are drawn to companies with diverse workforces because it is evident that the companies do not practice employment discrimination. Potential employees would want to know that employers treat their staff fairly regardless of race, ethnicity or gender. Not only are such firms able to attract new talent but they can also retain existing talent because of high employee morale resulting from workforce diversity. 1.2: 4 factors that affect an organisationââ¬â¢s approach to attracting talent 1: Selecting choice of advertisement: this is a wide area to attract new recruits by posting adverts in professional recruitment agencies like Berkley Scott or Reed. 2: Company branding and the state of business: many companies show income statement on the Internet and their mission plan for the next few years, which mainly includes quality plans for employees. 3: Learning and Development: nowadays companies like The Doyle Collection or McDonaldââ¬â¢s are involved in many apprenticeships programme and they are encouraging by funding people in any age to go for degree or to take up professional qualifications. 4: Type of role: many employers reduces the roles within an organization and they are creating the job portfolio roles e.g. Payroll with accounts assisting, which is more paid and it is more motivating for individuals. 1.3: 3 factors that affect an organisationââ¬â¢s approach to recruitment and selection: Proactive human resource professionals understand the various internal and external factors influencing recruitment. When conditions change in the marketplace, the company needs to monitor these changes to determine how it affects the talent pool. The company also needs to analyze internal functions to see what helps and hinders effective recruitment. 1.Personnel Utilization: A company can avoid having to hire new employees by monitoring the skill sets of existing employees. For example, if you are opening a new sales division that focuses on a new family of products, then you may be able to utilize your current sales staff to provide the startup sales professionals the new group will need. The success of the new department will necessitate the need for recruiting outside representatives at some point in the future, but you can save on startup costs by utilizing existing personnel. 2.Outsourcing: The concept of outsourcing activities that are not a companyââ¬â¢s core competency is an internal business practice that affects recruiting. For example, a food processing company would hire an outside IT firm to install and administer the companyââ¬â¢s computer network because computers are not the food processing companyââ¬â¢s core competency. When companies outsource, that reduces the need for recruiting new employees. The human resources department will have to shift resources away from recruiting for the outsourced functions, and focus on supplying employment candidates for the companyââ¬â¢s core business units. 3: Competition: Companies within the same industry are competing for qualified candidates to ensure future growth. There is competition in the recruiting end of your business just as there is in selling products. You need to analyze what your competition is offering new employees, and try to develop a competitive package to lure in the talent that you need. 2.1 Describe the benefits of at least 3 different recruitment methods 1: Internal Recruitment: benefit is cheaper and quicker to recruit. People are already familiar with the business and how it operates. It can be motivating as it provides opportunities for promotion with in the business. Organization is already aware of the strength and weaknesses of candidates. Easy to pick up the best talents within an organization. It builds a long relationship with employees. 2: External Recruitment: The benefit is the outside people bring in new ideas. You get a larger pool of workers from which you can select the best candidate. Candidates will have a wider range of experience. Uniqueness in employees worked for different companies can take the company to an extra mile. 3: Third-Party Sourcing: Third party sourcing involves using a placement agency or headhunter to find qualified job candidates. These third-party sources use various techniques and tools to find appropriate job applicants, such as extending offers of improved sala ry compensation and more flexible benefits packages. 1.3: benefits of at least 3 different selection methods. 1.Lower employee turnover rate. 2.Picking the right employee from the start saves time and money. 3.Positions are staffed with competent employees. 4.1: 3 purposes of induction and how they benefit individuals and organisations. 1.It is a process of bringing/introducing/familiarizing a new recruit into the organization. 2. Company orientation i.e. showing how the employee fits into the team and how their role fits with the organizationââ¬â¢s strategy and goals. 3. Details of the organizationââ¬â¢s history, its culture and values, and its products and services. Benefits for individuals: The employee will feel welcomed into the organization, be respected and be made to feel more comfortable in the workplace. An individual will also find it easier to integrate into the workplace. â⬠¨Ã¢â¬ ¨ New employee will feel that they made the right decision to join a particular organization. â⬠¨Ã¢â¬ ¨ A good induction programme will help to build the new employeeââ¬â¢s self-esteem, morale and sense of motivation. An induction programme will establish good communication between the manager or the supervisor and the new employee from the very beginning. Benefits for the organization: Increase productivity; Reduce wastage through correct material utilization; Reduce incidents & accident 4.2 The Bristol Hotel New Employee Induction Plan Friday 30/09/10 Time Areas Covered Action Required By Whom 9.00 ââ¬â 10.30 Welcome and Introductions Introduce Line manager and colleagues. The fresh sea air blew in my cold face – Creative Writing
The fresh sea air blew in my cold face. The air was bitter, and I could hear the waves bashing against the pale white cliffs. I strolled along the cliff side, listening to the waves and the seagulls up above, they echoed as they swooped down past my shoulders. A shiver went down my spine as a raindrop hit my shivery hands; I pulled up the hood, on my old grey waterproof and searched for cover. The blackening clouds gathered in the murky grey sky, and a rumble of thunder was shortly followed by a bolt of terrifying lightening. I gazed out to the horizon and in the distance I could see a large unwanted ship. The wind started to howl and the rain came down harder and harder. The ship out at sea was swaying and disappearing deep into the troughs between the waves, and as it drew closer I could see that it was a cruise liner, it looked just like the ship which I once went onâ⬠¦. As I stepped out of the taxi, the humid sticky air hit me and the wind, blew my hair on my hot flushed face. I looked around and there it was the cruise liner. The sparkling white ship dazzled on the waters surface like diamonds. I glanced at it again, and there were crowds of people gathering. The sun crept through the clouds in the sky and shadows of palm trees covered the dull concrete floor. I walked down to the beach, to feel the warm sand rub against my toes. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of yachts sailing in the salty harbour. The smell of fish lingered in the air and I could feel the shallow waves tickle against my ankles and the blazing sun shining down onto my sore burnt shoulders. I stood there for a couple of minutes, enjoying the peace, but the humidity was too much. My parents called me and I rushed up the steep mound of hot sand and rumble. My Mum handed me my tatty passport and told me to get in the queue. I could barley see what was going on up head, I stood on tiptoes and attempted to pear through the gaps. I could just about see an old man, rather large and looking rather grumpy, he was taking pictures of everybody then checking there passports. I stood in the ever lasting queue for what seemed like ages, the hot sun still shining down. Once aboard the ship, I felt cooler, but the air conditioning felt like it was choking me, my mouth had gone dry and the soggy smell made me heave. The atmosphere was lively, but empty at the same time, there were young children clutching to there parents, screeching with amazement. Every where seemed dark and compacted, the reception was dull and bland. My mum went to the desk to collect our cabin keys; she handed them over and said that our luggage would arrive shortly. This is when we got more than we had bargained for. We struggled down the endless narrow corridor, squeezing past other peoples luggage, glancing at each and every number, on each and every door. Finally, we arrived at our cabins; however there was no luggage outside either of our rooms. We turned the key in the rusty lock and entered the cabin through the thin doorway. The rooms were bland and dull; the furniture was shabby and rather worn, the room felt stuffy and full. My sister and I decided to go and hunt for our suitcases. We dawdled down thin extended corridors still struggling to get passed peoples luggage, the corridor was decorated with bright pictures which opened up the confined space. We glanced at the name tags on suitcases which looked similar to ours, and after about twenty minutes we found three bags, stacked at the end of a corridor. When we arrived back at the room my brother had found the other bags, I sat on my bunk bed and stared out to the harbour, if you looked underneath the sea's surface you could see jelly fish swaying about in between pieces of rubbish. Once we had left the harbour I went exploring round the ship and as I wandered past the restaurant my stomach rumbled and my mouth watered, at the smell of burger and chips, I glanced in to see brightly coloured fruits all laid out, and many other passengers tucking into there lunch. I left the restaurant and strolled along to the pool, Young children dancing around in the corner with kids club and parents at the bar enjoying a drink or two! The wind had calmed down now and clouds had cleared, but it still wasn't that hot so I wandered back to my cabin to get my family for lunch, I kept on imagining the watermelon melting in mouth, and the chips covered in ketchup on my plate. I stopped to look out the window, we had been out of the harbour know for about an hour, I could faintly see dolphins swaying in and out of the twirling waves they looked like silkâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ The rain poured down harder and harder on my shoulders as I watched the cruise liner come into the harbour, I wondered if I would ever experience a cruise again? I hope so, but maybe not quite yet, the lightening struck once more, and the wind howled, I could hear the seagulls in the distance, and the bitter air blew up inside my loose waterproof, the howling wind pushed me over and I struggled to my feet, the horizon had drawn closer and the misty sky made it hard to sea out onto the deadly ocean, and I could see no further than the fence a few meters in front of me.

The attitudes and feelings presented in Romeo Juliet Essays
The attitudes and feelings presented in Romeo Juliet Essays The attitudes and feelings presented in Romeo Juliet Paper The attitudes and feelings presented in Romeo Juliet Paper Essay Topic: Romeo and Juliet Most the attitudes and feelings presented in Romeo and Juliet are closely linked to the themes presented in the play. The main themes of the play are developed by contrast and centre on love. These attitudes are different to the attitudes that are used today and that is why Shakespearean characters are seen to be more humorous than they are perhaps intended to be. In the opening scenes, three different kinds of love are portrayed. Sensual love is first presented in the vulgar jokes of Samson and Gregory, in the bawdy comments of the Nurse, and in Mercutios sexual jokes about Rosaline at the expense of Romeo. After this a love sick Romeo is shown, who is in love with idea of love, and believes that Rosaline is the girl of his dreams where in fact she is quite the opposite. He is the only person who is unaware of the shallowness of his love as it is purely sexual. The third type of love presented in the play is Conventional Love, this is when love is arranged by families who are looking for allies or something In return. Paris offers his rank in exchange for Juliets love; this is similar to Romeos feelings for Rosaline. He courteously requests for Juliets hand in marriage to Lord Capulet, even though his eyes had never met hers. There is no emotion here, only convenience and proper social matching. Nevertheless, against this initial presentation, Romeos feelings towards Rosaline are thrown in the air when he and Juliet are first introduced to each other at the Capulets ball. He immediately forgets about his artificial love towards Rosaline, as true love takes complete possession over his mind. But there are some opposite feelings shown also, which contrast all of the loving feelings. For example, in act 1 scene 1, Sampson and Gregory are taking a walk across the grounds where they live and they are having a casual conversation about sex. Sampson talks about how women are the weaker vessels, this shows that he believes that men are superior to women. This depicts the attitude that many males had at this time. They both talk about what they are going to do to the Montague women. Ay, the heads of the maids, or their maidenheads-take it in what sense thou wilt. What Sampson is saying here is that he is going to rape the Montague women and then cut off their heads. The word maidenhead used to mean virginity, so he what he has said has 2 meanings. The way in which he nonchalantly says these remarks would make it seem that this sort of joking was tolerable banter between young men at this time. Shakespeare also presents this chauvinistic view towards women by using extended metaphors and imagery. There is an ongoing link to natural things, such as when the head of the Capulet household says to the other male characters at his party, Inherit the delights of fresh female buds. This kind of natural imagery is used by Shakespeare to present the natural beauty of women; the word delights implied that they are special and are there to be enjoyed. Also the term fresh female buds implies that they are young, and ready to blossom into something more mature. This natural imagery implies that were the women are still beautiful, they are still to be used in a way that the servants would do. This is yet another technique used by Shakespeare; he uses certain people at different levels in the societal hierarchy as symbols to show the array of views throughout society. However, Capulet does not sound as crude as Sampson and Gregory did previously, this was an acceptable view to have towards women at the time in society where as it is unacceptable now. Shakespeare continues with his extended metaphor of nature later on the story, when Capulet is talking to Paris about him giving away her hand in marriage. He thinks that his daughter is not yet ripe to be a bride. This immediately suggests to the audience that she is being compared to a fruit, which again is something wonderful and beautiful. On the other hand, Capulet is very aware that early arranged marriage can turn sour eventually just like fruit. This is also shown in the quote too soon marred are those two early made. When Capulet says this in the Zefferelli film, he looks across to his wife, who gives him a significant sour look. This dramatic technique shows the resentment between Lady Capulet and Capulet and we know he is talking from experience of his own arranged marriage. Sampson and Gregory also talk about how they are always up for fights with the Montague servants, Sampson says, I will push Montagues men from the wall This is a metaphor presenting his hatred towards Montagues. It suggests humiliation of the opposite family because by pushing them from the walls in the streets. ampson goes onto say and I will thrust his maids to the wall. This is a pun, which also denotes embarrassment, this time of the opposite sex. The pun is made clear through sexual gestures made by Sampson. This is a dramatic technique used by Zefferelli to emphasise Sampsons violent sexual nature. Moreover, I believe that Shakespeare is specifically showing how men treated women at the time of the play and to some extent, still are, treated as objects that are to be used purely for the sexual pleasure of the male species. There is a contrast of moods throughout the play. The mood created by the love between Romeo and Juliet is bright, happy, and romantic. The prevailing mood of Verona is ugly, harsh, and cruel, as evidenced in the needless conflict between the Capulets and Montagues and the action of those touched by the conflict. The death of Romeo and Juliet creates a mood of tragedy and despair. Shakespeare is always changing the moods presented within the play; however they still all mainly revolve around love. One of the plays most consistent visual motifs is the contrast between light and dark, often in terms of night/day imagery. This contrast is not given a particular metaphoric meaning-light is not always good, and dark is not always evil. On the contrary, light and dark are generally used to provide a sensory contrast and to hint at opposed alternatives. One of the more important instances of this motif is Romeos lengthy meditation on the sun and the moon during the balcony scene, in which Juliet is metaphorically described as the sun. Shakespeare presents the prince as being very demanding and intelligent; this is shown when he says throw your mistempered weapons to the ground. Using the word mistempered acts as a pun, so therefore shows his intelligence and anger that he is feeling at the time. The word mistempered has two meanings, one of which is that the weapons were used in anger and the other is that they have been made for the wrong reason. He may have done this as a gateway so that he can get some of his views across into the play. One of the main ways that Shakespeare presents Romeo and Juliets true love is through his use of metaphors and contrasting similes. For example in the famous balcony scene the audience really gets to see how Romeos feelings have changed. The imagery of light and darkness are very important to the play and particularly to this scene. When Romeo felt he was in love with Rosaline, his mood was dark and gloomy because she was cold like the moon, however now that he has met, and is in love with Juliet, his mood becomes a lot more bright and warm, we know this because he compares Juliet to the sum, which suggests that know she is in his life, he feels warmer. Again Romeo is personifying the planets, which reminds the audience of the Greek mythology theme, this makes their love seem magical and out of this world. He also compares her to an angel, which is developing the religious symbol that was seen during their first meeting, which also suggests that their love pure, and is destiny. This reference to an angel in the dark, As glorious to this night as is a winged messenger from heaven, is an obvious contrast between dark and bright. This extended metaphor supports the idea that he feels warm and bright now she is in his life. In conclusion, Shakespeare uses a variety of metaphors, extended metaphors and comparative similes, these are use to portray the in-depth imagery. The main image that is used in Romeo and Juliet is a natural one, and it is mainly used to portray the beauty of the females in society. However, a twist is put upon the image: Sampson and Gregory talk about the beauty of women in a vulgar and violent sense. This is to show their violent and chauvinistic nature, as well as their sexual desires. These two characters symbolise and stereotype males during this period in society. Shakespeare also uses them to emphasise male dominance. The audience gets an impression of patriarchal society in general; this is because the same chauvinistic views are shown at both ends of the hierarchical system. The servants, Sampson and Gregory, share the same opinions as Lord Capulet. Romeo and Juliet show the true love that two people can share. They are presented as a constant contrast of light and dark. When they didnt have each other everything was dark and the mood was bad, however when they found each other the mood of the overall play as well as the characters brightens. Shakespeare does this to show the audience that love is not about money, status or any other conventional things; but true love is about devoted couple who share equal power. I believe that Shakespeare did this to try and educate society at the time.

Vimy Ridge essays
Vimy Ridge essays In the past 100 years 25 major events in history have helped shape Canada into the fine country it is now. The battle of Vimy Ridge stands out among them. People from non-Canadian countries went to this battle as French, British, and others came back from the war Canadian heroes. Vimy Ridge is just one of 25 major events in the past 100 years. On August, 1914 the recruitment began with a monumental force of 650, 000 men. All the men had reasons for joining some honorable others not like evading the law or fleeing their wives. This Canadian Expeditionary Force and Canada Corps has been the greatest achievement by Canada since confederation. Then the key event occurred on Easter Monday, 1917 Canadian Corps launched a perfectly planned assault on the Germans. The Germans were positioned on the top of Vimy Ridge had fortified the line so effectively that it held back 4 earlier attempts to take the ridge. This time the Canadians had proper training and artillery to make this fifth and final attempt their finest work ever. The battle techniques were developed by a McGill University and engineering professor and lieutenant colonel Andy McNaughton. They mapped out and destroyed German gun positions in the days before the assault. The early morning attack had 19, 200 men in eight brigades The Germans front line was either killed or unhinged by the first wave of attacks. That left an impregnable area for the Canadians to effectively take over the position. Sadly, 10, 602 Canadians died protecting our freedom. These people were brave and unrelenting for our freedom; these are our true Canadian heroes. The battle of Vimy Ridge is argued to be the event that led to Canada being a successful nation. After November 11, 1918 Canada was viewed as a more serious manner than ever before. Although Vimy Ridge never led to any allied breakthrough this was still a very important event in history. ...
